What happens, step by step
We explain each step before we do it.
- 01
Meet and count
The first visit is often just sitting in the chair and counting teeth. No treatment unless there is pain.
- 02
Check-up
We look for early decay between the back teeth, where it usually starts.
- 03
Fluoride and sealants
A fluoride coat makes the enamel stronger. Sealants close the deep grooves where cavities start.
- 04
Habits
Thumb sucking, mouth breathing and bottle feeding all affect the jaw. We tell you what needs correcting and when.
Before you book
- The first visit should be by the first birthday, or when the first tooth comes.
- Milk teeth matter. They hold the space for the adult teeth.
- Please do not tell your child "the dentist will not do anything". If we do need to, the child feels tricked.
At what age should my child first see a dentist?
Around the first birthday, or when the first tooth comes. Early visits are just to get the child used to the clinic.
Do cavities in milk teeth need filling?
Often, yes. An untreated milk tooth can get infected and damage the adult tooth growing under it.
